I
almost let Arthur Conan Doyle's 153rd birthday pass by unacknowledged (on this blog). THAT, my dear friends, would have been a travesty. And I will tell you why . . . in GIFs.
Arthur is responsible for creating two of the most loved characters in all of literature. End of story. Yay for books and all that jazz. But let's focus on what's TRULY important here. Without this dapper Scottish gentleman . . .
|
Can you spot the creative genius? Hint: He keeps it on his face. |
. . . we wouldn't have this:
|
Sherlock for kids. |
. . . or this:
|
Sherlock NOT for kids. |
More important, there would be none of this:
|
Watson: making real-life best friends look bad since 1887.
|
And I SHUDDER to imagine a world without this:
|
Words. I no longer remember how to use them.
|
So thank you, Arthur, for bringing Watson and Sherlock into our lives and establishing them permanently in pop culture. And, most of all, thank you ever so for making this possible:
|
You probably don't want credit for this. WELL TOO BAD. |
Happy birthday, you old coot.
NICE. I saw a play at Steppenwolf called 'Fake' that had Conan Doyle as a character. It was about that whole kerfuffle involving the Piltdown Man.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Irene Adler is the best character in the new Sherlock. THANK YOU STEVEN MOFFAT.
Poor Arthur. Always accused of forging fossils of early humans. HE WAS FRAMED, I tell you.
ReplyDeleteI was so close to including an Irene Adler GIF, but I was afraid I had already gotten too GIF-y...if such a thing is possible.

ReplyDeleteRedeemed from that boy band disagreement at last!
ReplyDeleteThis is my second Basil the Great Mouse Detective sighting in like two days, and I believed I lived in a world where no one knew what it was! So thanks for that :D
ReplyDeleteRatigan is so evil. Just look at him. And you know his breath is bad too.
ReplyDeleteAnd he has that grossly obese cat that he feeds his enemies to. He is the EVILEST.
ReplyDeleteMourn no longer, dear friend...I am a fellow lover of Basil. I even used to listen to the audio book of the picture book of the movie when I was little. But I had to fast-forward through all the parts with Fidget...because that bat be scary.
ReplyDeleteAnd at the risk of shameless self-promotion, this post I wrote last year heavily featured The Great Mouse Detective...HEAVILY.
